Anxiety and panic attacks can strike anyone at any time… it is estimated that anxiety disorder problems affect about 40 million Americans each year. The diverse anxiety disorder symptoms can cause sufferers to be filled with fear and uncertainty. Mild but brief forms of anxiety can be produced by a stressful event such as speaking in public or even a first date. The feelings produced by this reaction will fade away a few hours after such an event has finished. For an anxiety disorder on the other hand, anxiety feelings can last for at least 6 months and they can get worse if they not treated in time.

Panic disorder is where you feel panic, terror and feelings of helplessness. With this condition the feelings can be triggered by a simple act or memory that has no relation to where you are. This anxiety disorder is compounded by the fact that you’re continually wondering when the next panic attack will occur.

The symptoms of panic can hit any one of us. This is a normal human defense mechanism called the ‘fight or flight’ instinct and this defensive mechanism has helped humans evolve to the state that we’re in now. However, our day to day stress filled lives can bring unwanted anxieties into our spheres and it’s when these anxieties repeatedly occur that they can turn into an anxiety panic disorder. The emotions can make you feel that you’re experiencing a stroke, a heart attack or even that you’re dying. When no medical help can be found to treat this “mysterious” condition, then you’re left to wonder when the next attack may happen. As you’re unable to predict the next attack you become extremely anxious and you might also generate a lingering and intense worry that your next attack could happen the next minute.

These intense feelings can keep you on a roller coaster of anxiety and panic. The more these symptoms are repeated, your brain begins to dictate how you should live so as not to experience any more panic attacks. This then, spirals into anxiety panic disorder.

The symptoms of anxiety panic disorder involve pounding heart, weakness, feelings of being faint, and dizziness. Your hands may feel numb or they may tingle. You will experience chest pains, smothering sensations, a sense of unreality. All of these may lead you to think that you are having a heart attack, a stroke or even dying. Anxiety attacks can last anywhere from a few minutes up to 10 minutes and there are even rare cases where a case anxiety panic disorder can last for about an hour.

For people who suffer from anxiety panic disorder there are other things that need to be treated as well. Depression and alcoholism are some of the accompanying issues and sometimes panic attacks can spawn phobias as well. These phobias occur where a panic attack first happened. This may even cause an anxiety panic disorder sufferer to restrict their lives so they avoid situations that might invite another attack.

If you suffer from an anxiety panic disorder you’ll know just how debilitating it can be. To that end an anxiety panic disorder sufferer has a number of options to choose from to either learn to cope with their condition or to find a fitting cure. Where is that cure you may ask? Certainly, every case is different, but there are patients who have experienced relief and in some cases, complete recovery.

The first step however, is as always in your hands – only you can find a suitable solution for your anxiety panic disorder.

When we think about fear, we know that it is a natural instinct of the humans when we are facing dangerous and threatening situations. The fear will trigger the adrenaline flows that prepare our bodies to fight for our survival or to escape from the danger. This is what normally termed as the fight or flight reaction. This is almost inherent in our normal lives that the reaction will kick in during times of danger or fear of threats. Nevertheless, when this reaction leads to a prolonged state of fear that cannot be removed, it suggests possible panic symptoms occur.

What are panic attacks? Panic attacks are marked by persistent and chronic condition of fear and dread. Feeling of fear is itself a natural emotion, however, panic attacks cause fear that is exaggerated and overwhelming that can be provoked in absence of any dangers or threats at all. The attacks cannot be explained in terms of its cause that is, production of adrenaline and changes in hormones that accelerate the body functioning to deal with danger as there are no rational reasons for the occurrence of panic attacks at all. The impact of the attack is severe and hardly anything can stop it from happening.

Several physical symptoms of panic attacks can be identified which include heart racing, pounding or skipping heartbeat, tightness or discomfort in chest region, choking sensation, sweatiness, shaking and trembling, butterflies and nausea, hot flashes or chills, numbness in certain parts of the body, erratic breathing or shortness of breath, dizziness, light-headedness and so forth. The psychological emotions felt by these victims can be very damaging and frightening that they, who suffer panic attacks, can feel that they are dying or losing their minds. Things seem unreal to them or may even feel that they are detached from their bodies while some are so fearful that they must escape and flee the situation altogether.

In fact, the symptoms mentioned above are the sensations and feelings that one experiences whenever they are facing impending threats or dangers. As reinstated earlier, these symptoms occur to sufferers of panic attacks in circumstances without presence of danger even in safe environment and under no logical explanation. There is no surprise at all that the panic attack can occur even when the victim is at sleep.

Once panic attacks have happened, they cannot be easily stopped or cannot be stopped at all. The rates and frequency of occurrence of panic attacks cannot be predicted because there can be absolutely no warning signs to suggest that they can occur. This means that there are possibilities that they can occur at any place and at any point in time. The strong mental and emotional reactions to the attacks are a result of the out-of-proportionally excessive hormones and adrenalines that pump into the bodies to tackle dangerous situations. As such, appropriate means of treatments must be sought in order to control these emotions of fear and dread during panic attacks.

While a person is in the grip of a panic attack, they go through an intense and excessive amount of terror. As these feelings are extremely intense, the few minutes that they last may seem like an eternity.

Do you want to live a life with endless cycle of terror and overwhelming fear everyday of your life? Say no! You can help yourself to get out of the panic attacks by seeking help and treatment with an experienced and professional psychologist or psychiatrist. Keep in mind that panic attack is not something that you can either diagnose or cure by yourself. Nevertheless, while the conditioning effect of the panic attack is very difficult to deal with, it is a curable condition with various treatment options and alternatives available in the marketplace.

What is anxiety disorder?

Anxiety disorder is a condition that puts a person in a constant state of alertness and fear. Anxiety is otherwise a normal reaction to stress that people commonly experience at various points in their lives. Generally speaking, anxiety helps people to cope with difficult situations until they are resolved (tense situations at work, harder studying for an exam, focusing on an important speech…).

However, for about one in every twelve people anxiety is so persistent and severe that it creates serious problems. Anxious feelings may be so uncomfortable that result in avoiding everyday activities and can escalate into anxiety and panic disorders such as panic symptoms.

Panic attacks are episodes of intense fear or anxiety that comes without warning and without any obvious reason. They are far more intense than just having a feeling of being stressed out which most people experience. Panic attack happens suddenly and can be particularly debilitating because they can occur at any time, even during sleep. Many people (about one-third) who suffer from panic disorder often become agoraphobic.

Agoraphobia is the abnormal fear of being in a situation where one might experience anxiety or panic attack. People suffering from agoraphobia may experience severe panic attacks in situations where they feel trapped, out of control, or too far from their personal comfort zone or an area where they have control of their environment. Agoraphobia is a debilitating condition that can bring fear, shame and isolation to those who suffer from it.

Symptoms of anxiety and panic attacks?

Symptoms of anxiety and panic attacks can include pounding heart, a sense of suffocation, nausea, dizziness, sweating, disorganized thinking, migraine headaches, hyperventilation, breathing difficulties, tightening throat, chest pain, shaking and trembling, depersonalisation, fear of losing control, fear of dying and many more. Beyond anxiety and panic attacks themselves, a key symptom is also the persistent fear of having future panic attacks.

Panic attacks are usually brief, lasting less than ten minutes. Although the exact causes of these disorders are not fully known, studies have shown that a combination of biological and environmental factors may be involved. In many people, the symptoms develop in association with major life changes (like getting married, having a child, starting a new job, etc.) and major lifestyle stressors.

Why so many people today suffer from anxiety and panic attacks is also partially due to our high-stress modern society.

A panic attack is a feeling of intense fear or distress. It often happens very suddenly for no apparent reason. Although anxiety symptoms are very scary for the sufferer, they are not medically serious. When a person suffers from a panic attack, it is the body’s natural response to danger known as the fight-or-flight response, even there is no apparent reason or danger for the onset of the attack. These reactions are called triggers. In this article I am going to give you many tips for panic attacks, so you can handle yours easily.

Symptoms Of A Panic Attack

The symptoms of a panic attack can include trembling, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, chest pains, nausea, dizziness and sweating. Many people who have suffered from panic attacks believe them to be one of the most terrifying experiences they have ever encountered.

When panic attacks occur regularly for no apparent reason, this is known as panic disorder. Often, people who encounter their first panic attack believe that they are seriously ill and seek medical attention. My first tip panic attacks is, if you suffer from a panic attack, it is best to see a doctor to rule out any chances of underlying health problems causing the attacks, such as heart problems or depression.

What Causes A Panic Attack?

There is no particular reason why some people can have a sudden panic attack, but professionals have noted that there do seem to be certain triggers causing them. Examples of this are people who have severe phobias and may suffer from a panic attack when faced with a trigger. Many people who take recreational drugs have also been known to suffer from panic attacks while under the influence of the drug. Prescription medication can also cause panic attacks in some patients.

Here’s another tip for panic attacks. There is also evidence to suggest that panic attacks are more likely to occur in people who have relatives that suffer from panic attacks. Or in people who have had a sudden change in their lives or experienced distress of some sort. However, panic attacks can happen to anyone, at anytime, for no apparent reason.

Panic Attack Treatments

For the majority of those who suffer from panic attacks, the best treatment is to be educated about the condition and learn ways to control the attacks naturally with the aid of relaxation techniques and breathing into paper bags. Doctors and health care professionals show patients how to manage their panic attacks so they can treat themselves when they happen.

There are times that those suffering from panic attacks may be given medication. For example, if the doctor suspects that there is an underlying cause for the attacks, the patient may be given anxiety medications, such as valium or activan, while the patient is being checked for other illnesses.

My final tip for panic attacks is, Anxiety attacks don’t have to rule your life. By learning as much about them and figuring out what your triggers are, you can eventually get rid of them for good.

Often anxiety symptoms occur for no apparent reason. Their causes are shrouded in mystery. They can strike unexpectedly, suddenly, spontaneously.

That said, panic attacks tend to occur when your are under stress. They can also crop up when you are about to face a situation that you are afraid of, either consciously or unconsciously. That situation could be real or imagined. For instance, you may have a public speech to give and your mind might be working overtime on the (un)likely reaction of your audience.

Your fears and phobias are often your worst enemy. They can trigger a panic attack when you least suspect it, with no advance warning. The first thing you’ll know is that the panic attack has started. Which isn’t a pleasant situation to be in.

Sometimes panic attacks are associated with hereditary factors. If someone else in your family has suffered from panic attacks then there is a higher chance that you will also suffer from unexpected panic attacks.

At other times, life changing situations can bring on the feeling of panic. Often these situations are associated with distress, such as divorce, loss of your job or even moving house, which is said to be one of our most stressful occurrences.

As well as these situations, there are other things that contribute to panic attacks.

Too much nicotine and/or too much caffeine can both work against you. They are fairly easy to cut down on, although not always as easy to cut out completely. Watch out for withdrawal symptoms, especially with caffeine.

Alcohol is another substance that is worth cutting down if you suffer from panic attacks. If you’re out with friends, try alternating between alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. If, for instance, every other drink is a juice or a sparkling water, no-one except you will know that there’s no alcohol in the drink.

People who experience the sheer terror of anxiety symptoms will often go to extreme measures to find some way to deal with future panic attacks. Luckily there are many choices they can make. The bad news is that choice is not always cut and dry.

It is difficult to decide which treatment is going to work the best. There are natural cures for panic attacks or you can go with one of the medications that are available. Often people will tend to try both ways to see what works for them. You know yourself and what style works best for you. Everyone is different; some people do not think natural cures are good while others are more opened minded about it all.

Some people would never dream of trying a new way of doing things. Modern medicine has never been better. I most always will try a natural cure before I start popping pills. You need to decide how well a natural cure will work for anxiety panic attack symptoms. There is a time and place for modern medicine but sometimes natural cures for panic attacks will get the job done.

Here are three good reasons I think you should try to take on anxiety naturally first.

1. Medications do not always get the job done.

You have experienced the symptoms I am sure. Your breath is short and you start shaking and you begin to wonder if this is ever going to go away. Most everyone will try some of the available drugs to see if this will help. The drugs may cut back on how often you have these terrible attacks.

Suffers are so relived that the panic attacks do not occur as often that they do not see that they still come. There is no doubt that medication can offer a short term break and can give you a sense of relief but medicine alone usually cannot completely do away with your attacks. It does not solve the real problem and stop the fear that anxiety panic attack symptoms bring.

2. Fighting back works.

A very good reason for trying a natural method for dealing with this is you can fight back when a panic attack comes. What happens when an attack gets through your medications? Although they may not occur as often it is still bad when it happens.

Natural cures should allow you the ability to fight off an attack more easily. Today’s drugs should help you not have the attacks as often but natural cures do all they can to help you diminish the fear. If you fight long enough you may find out that your panic attacks are not as bad as they once were.

3. Natural methods are long term.

If you stop taking your medicine you will be back at square one. If you want to stop these attacks in their tracks you should take a look at natural cures for panic attacks. They may give you the inner strength you need to fight and win this battle.

As I discussed earlier in this article you should keep an open mind and look at both ways of fighting anxiety attack panic treatment methods. There are benefits either way you decide to go but I like to look at the big picture rather than thinking of only today. The natural methods bring with it the chance to free yourself forever from anxiety panic attack symptoms so that is the choice I will make.

Imagine sitting in the gymnasium at your child’s school while you’re having a full-blown panic attack. There are people all around you and if you get up to leave the gym everyone will be staring at you. Your heart is racing a million miles a minute. Your face and body are drenched in sweat from heat to toe like you’ve just run a marathon. What a nightmare!

Unfortunately, I don’t have to imagine this because I lived it. This happened to me in the spring of 2005 and was the worst panic attack I’d ever experienced. I felt utterly humiliated as other parents that I knew sat beside me and wondered what the heck was wrong with me.

To me the only thing I could do at that moment was lie, so I told other parents that I was having trouble with hormones and hot flashes. I felt sure I couldn’t admit that I was having a panic attack because these people would think I was “crazy”. My child went to school with their children, who would sometimes come over to my home. There was no way I could admit the truth.

The only two people to whom I ever confessed my panic attack problem were my sister and my best friend. That holds true to this day, even eight months after I found a cure for my panic attacks and no longer struggle with this issue. However, the stigma is still there.

What is it about anxiety disorders or panic symptoms that make people afraid to speak out about them? Anxiety sufferers are afraid that they’ll be seen as weak or that people will look at them differently. It’s ironic that when people have a physical illness such as kidney problems that they have no problem discussing it with others. But when you bring a problem that can be viewed as a “mental illness” into the picture, people shut up like clams.

I’m not personally convinced that anxiety disorders can be classified as a mental illness as the problem has less to do with brain activity and more to do with the nervous system. The “fight or flight” mechanism is usually out of whack in anxiety patients and needs to be re-set so that the body can produce normal physical reactions to trigger events.

So are you in denial about your panic attacks? How many people are you going to lie to before you finally get help for this problem?

I don’t recommend confiding to your inner circle of friends unless you’re absolutely positive that you’ll get the support you deserve. I can’t imagine anything worse than not being taken seriously about this issue.

However, you might be surprised at the response you get if you share your secret. You may discover a new ally in your panic attack problem.
For example I was surprised to learn that my best friend struggled with panic attacks as well after I finally confided in her about mine. It was very comforting to me to be able to discuss this problem with someone without feeling like I would be viewed as unstable.

Panic attacks are just that: a problem. It’s not a disease and you don’t have a mental illness. Panic attacks affect millions of people from all walks of life. You are not alone. Do some research online and you’ll find user groups and online information waiting to be discovered. If you don’t want to open up to someone in person you may find an online friend that is struggling with the same condition.

So don’t give up. There is a cure for you. Take the first step so you can find it.

Anxiety Symptoms can be very frightening to those who suffer from them. At times, they may seem so bad that sufferers fear they may be having a heart attack or even dying. The good news is that nobody has ever died from a panic attack and the symptoms can be treated.

What are the main panic attack symptoms? There are literally hundreds of panic attack symptoms and sufferers can have anywhere from one symptom to all of them. The most common panic attack symptoms are:
· Rapid heart rate,
· Sweating,
· Trembling,
· Hyperventilation or shortness of breath,
· Chills,
· Hot flushes,
· Nausea, · Chest pains,
· Headache or migraines,
· Dizziness,
· Feeling of fainting,
· Trouble swallowing or tightness in throat,
· A feeling as though you are going to die.

The causes of panic attacks It is not really known what the causes of a panic attack are, although it is believed that stress, hereditary and other factors can be main contributors to the condition.

It is a well-known medical fact that the body reacts to situations instinctively. A good example of this is the fight or flight response. When a person feels that they are in danger, the body instinctively speeds up the heart rate and breathing to prepare for a life or death situation. Panic attacks have many of the same occurrences, even though there is no reason for the body to have this reaction.

Using relaxation techniques to relieve panic attack symptoms:

Panic attacks can be treated with medications, such as antidepressants. But for those who are looking for a holistic approach and would like to treat or learn to control their condition naturally, the best alternative is often relaxation.

It is important to understand that relaxation is far more than just getting away from the every day stresses and putting your feet up. Relaxation is an intentional act that will bring you peace of mind.

By using relaxation methods effectively, you will be able to lessen the duration and severity of the symptoms and make them easier to live with. One useful relaxation technique is to lay in a comfortable position and concentrate on your breathing. Once you feel calm, begin to focus on the parts of your body that are tense and visualize the tension melting away.

Continue to breathe slowly and regularly and let your mind float away to a peaceful place. Make sure not to focus on thoughts or worries that may cause you tension. While you are lying there, slowly tighten one muscle at a time in your body, then release it.

To ensure that your relaxation techniques are working to help you reduce the effects of your panic attacks, revise some of the other things in your life that may contribute to your panic attacks. Make sure that you are getting enough sleep, staying away from caffeine and getting plenty of regular exercise.

Anxiety symptoms strike thousands of people each year, many of which have never had one before. You can be driving down the road or in your bed asleep when a panic attack begins. Women tend to be more prone to panic attacks than men, and once you have one, there is a pretty good likelihood that you will eventually have another. Panic attacks are more likely in people that already are suffering from another type of mental problem, such as depression, or unrealistic fears. No one has been able to find out for certain what causes people to have panic attacks. Some researchers think there are some genetic links to panic attacks, and that of course stress is also a trigger. If someone in your family has had panic attacks, you are more likely to have one too.

Currently, panic attacks are divided into three categories, spontaneous panic attacks, situational predisposed panic attacks, and specific panic attacks. Spontaneous panic attacks are usually found in patients who suffer from panic disorder. Panic disorder is a disease in which patients have many panic attacks, go through significant behavior and personality changes due to those attacks, and constantly live in fear of the next panic attack. There are no specific triggers that cause these spontaneous panic attacks. They can even occur while the patient is in bed sound asleep. Spontaneous panic attacks, and panic disorder can be very devastating to a person’s life and can greatly impact every aspect of their day to day living.

Situational predisposed panic attacks also affect people who have panic disorder. In this case, there are certain locations or events that trigger the panic attack, even though the patient may not be afraid of or normally experience fear at that particular time. They do not have a panic attack every time they are at that particular location, or every time they participate in that particular event. Predisposed means that they have had an attack there in the past, and that it could happen again, but may not necessarily happen at any given time.

Specific panic attacks occur when a patient comes into contact with something he fears, or goes a specific place that he is afraid of. Going back to the scene of a bad car accident, or visiting the house you grew up in if you had a bad childhood, those would be times that might trigger a specific panic attack. These attacks are the easiest to deal with, as you simply try to avoid the places and situations that you know seem to trigger the onset of a panic attack.

Some theories suggest that certain panic attacks are caused due to chemical imbalances within the brain. They also state that panic attacks often start after a catastrophic life event or gradual increase in stress levels overtime. They can be caused by the abuse of certain illegal drugs, or can be more prone to occur after someone has suffered from a major medical illness.

Other theories believe that incidents that occur during out childhood could be the cause of panic attacks as we grow older. We learn appropriate behaviors as children; we also develop self esteem, confidence, and the social skills that we need to be a successful, happy adult. The theory indicates that those of us who did not gain the support and skills we needed as a child, are more likely to develop panic disorders or attacks as an adult because we don’t know how to deal with situations in the grown-up world. When we are under significant stress for long periods, the stress of trying to be successful, healthy, and keep up in today’s fast paced world it often builds up and ends up in a full blown panic attack. Things build up after a while until you reach a point that your body and mind has to say enough.

There are many treatment options that are successful in helping lessen the frequency and severity of panic attacks, so that you don’t have to live your life in fear of the next one. Talk to your doctor, and see what options he can give you. Evaluate your life, and try to eliminate anything that you think may be a trigger, or help in causing your panic attacks.

People who suffer recurring panic symptoms are 18 times more likely than people with no mental disorders to try to kill themselves, suggesting that this often neglected disorder may be a major contributing cause of suicides, according to a study.

The researchers said their work should encourage emergency room doctors and other physicians who see people during panic attacks to offer treatment for the disorder.

Victims often seek help for heart attacks, choking and other medical emergencies that mimic the symptoms of panic attack. These people are often told “it’s all in their head,” rather than being referred to psychiatrists.

The latest finding that panic attacks are strongly linked to suicide attempts points to a potentially serious complication of a common disorder that has been relatively neglected.

An estimated 5 million Americans have panic disorder, recurring bouts of intense fear that strike for no apparent reasons. Two to three times this many people have occasional panic attacks.

The latest study, based on a large survey, found that 20 percent of people with panic disorder had attempted suicide, as had 12 percent of those with occasional panic attacks.

The researchers said that people plagued by panic attacks often think they are going crazy or dying. Many turn to alcohol, become afraid to leave their homes or grow depressed.

“We hope this alerts the non psychiatric physician to the potential mortality and morbidity of panic disorder,” said a member of the research teams who’s a psychiatric epidemiologist. “If a patient comes into the cardiac clinic
and has panic disorder, and heart attack is ruled out, we would like the physician to realize that the patient should be evaluated for panic disorder.”

Just why people with panic attacks are unusually prone to suicide is unclear. Some believe that depression may play a role, although it does not entirely explain the increased risk.

People who have panic attacks for many years become demoralized. They stay at home and withdraw socially and become depressed. We know that depressive feelings are associated with suicide.

The findings are quite remarkable and deserve widespread attention because they may provide general physicians with new opportunities to prevent suicide by recognizing and treating panic disorder.

When experiencing panic symptoms, people are gripped by sudden, unpredictable waves of intense apprehension or fear. They may suffer a variety of symptoms, including difficulty breathing,
palpitations, chest pain, choking, dizziness, faintness, trembling and hot and cold flashes, among other sensations.

Panic attacks can be controlled with medical treatment and behavioural therapy. Some people, however, simply try to live with their episodes of terror. Many patients with panic disorder are fine, upstanding people who do not want to
be considered flakey. So they tend to white knuckle through their panic attacks.

Many times, they work very hard to control the symptoms, but internally they are in a great deal of distress. The underlying cause of panic symptoms is not known. The problem runs in families, and experts believe genetic factors may be involved.

People with panic disorder were at times more likely than those with no mental illnesses to try to kill themselves. And they were twice as likely as those with other mental disorders to attempt suicide. The suicide risk grows as the number of panic attacks increase. It is also higher for those who have their first attacks at early ages.
