There are over 7 million sites on the internet pertaining to Panic Attacks where you can find out all you need to know ranging from panic symptoms to cures. This of course means you are not alone and that there are several others who suffer panic attacks or want to learn more in order to help others.
It also means that it is a continuous, on-going problem that is not addressing the root cause and continues to rob people of the quality of life they were meant to have.
How do you know if you are having a panic attack? Perhaps you already know and struggled for years to eliminate your panic attacks? Or maybe you have a loved one who is suffering from panic attacks, and want to help.
What are some of the symptoms?
*Dizzy spells leading to panic
*Tightness in the throat and chest
*Racing heart with tingle sensations
*Obsessive worries and unwanted thoughts.
*Overwhelming fear that something awful is about to occur.
*Chills or Hot Flashes
*Fear of losing control
*Impending doom
First, you need to know that from a medical stand point, panic attacks will not harm you. People who have gone to the hospital believing they were having a heart attack have been told that they are not in physical danger. After several visits to the hospital, for fear that they are dying, the doctors will usually refer them to Mental Health, or prescribe them with some sort of tranquilizer.
Those that have health insurance or can afford it go to Mental Health and go through months or years of counseling, they may learn relaxation techniques, deep breathing, are told to by this book or that book, or get referred to some sort of medication. All of which are only temporary fixer-uppers. None of which get to the root cause and the end result is a dependency on these avenues in order to make it through the day.
Suppose you are in the middle of an interview? You feel a panic attack coming on. What chances will you have of obtaining the job when you tell your prospective employer, “Excuse me; I need to go into the other room and perform my relaxation techniques so I don’t have a panic attack”? Not funny? No, it’s not. It’s real and although panic attacks don’t harm you physically, they torment you emotionally, day after day, year after year.
*I can’t leave home, I’m afraid I’ll have a panic attack.
*I can’t go to my child’s recital; I’ll embarrass him/her.
*I can’t go on vacation, what if I get stuck there and run
out of medication
*There’s something terribly wrong with me; I’m pathetic.
*I’m being punished; I don’t deserve to be happy.
Behind every panic attack is Fear! Most people will do anything possible to avoid facing that ugly creature called Fear. This creature will eat away at you and seek to destroy you, until your quality of life is nil.
Facing that nasty creature called Fear will set you free. Facing fear is not easy and should never be done alone when you begin. It’s even scarier than panic attacks and may bring on a panic attack if you don’t have support. That sounds rather hypocritical considering this article is about not using outside resources.
Having a support system is not the same as using temporary solutions. Facing fear is an inward journey that helps to empower you. Having a support system, or mentor helps you so you are not alone in your journey. It’s like helping a baby stand until they can stand on their own.
We are all meant to and deserve to have quality life, and to be happy, joyous, and free. There are people like you, or those you love, who are living happy, joyous and free lives and are panic attack free.
They are no longer living in a trapped existence wondering when it will end.
